Harry Dyke and his horse

Harry Dyke, groundsman around the turn of the 19th century, with his trusty horse. They were said to be inseparable and were often to be seen holding earnest conversations with each other. It was also recorded that Harry used to toll a bell to mark the start of play and other occasions.

On 12 Oct 1901 The Citizen provided a detailed account of the tragic death of Harry’s faithful horse.
